More details:
Our beautiful three-legged folding stools are a timeless design, which has appeared in many cultures around the world; from the Mexican saddle stool to the Swedish milking stool. Our maker Mark Honoré selected the highest quality materials available to make this luxurious version. “Each chair is a work of art, using individually selected leather and handcrafted details”, Mark explains.
Each piece is produced to order by Mark in his workshop in the Southern Highlands of NSW, a couple of hours south of Sydney.
The leather for the seat is sourced from Wickett & Craig, one of the last tanneries in the United States specializing in the production of vegetable-tanned leathers, using ancient methods and non-toxic processes and dyes. At a thickness of 5.0 to 5.5 millimetres, this leather is more often used in the production of saddlery and equestrian equipment. It is stable and very strong and, being vegetable-tanned, will age with grace and beauty.
“Stitching is achieved on a heavy-duty walking foot sewing machine, my Adler 205. The thread M8 is thick and strong, and as it’s nylon-bonded thread, it’s UV stable and rot proof”. The stool legs are sourced within Australia, from “Tasmanian Oak”, which is fine sanded and treated with Danish Oil. The connectors are made from locally produced M10 steel bolts.
At a seat height of approximately 485mm the stool can be used as a dining chair or an office chair, and is quite beautiful as an occasional chair in a living room or bedroom. The triple leg design is quite stable on uneven ground.
''Enjoy this chair. It is made to last."
Care: A regular treatment with Leatherguard will protect and soften the leather, and minimise drying of the leather in air-conditioned environments. The leather will darken with age and develop a deep patina. The nuts may need an occasional tightening. The timber will darken with age, as it is exposed to UV and general handling.
